08′ the year of the KO

9 fights and 6 kos or stoppages, with Penn doing what i said he would and subbing Stevenson in the 2nd round in what was a brutal and telling fight. Penn might be the best fighter under 170 in the world. Stevenson was on everyone’s top ten list Penn was left off of most do to inactivity in the division. After today he won’t be off of any and will be solidly in the top 5 most and with a win over Sherk maybe solidly at number 1. a true clash of the 155 titans is on its way.

Penn’s brutal victory was only one of many great shocking and violent fights ont he ufc 80 card that impressed in everyway. Lambert was KOed by Gouviea with a crazy hook of a punch that caught him right on the jaw and turned his lights right out. Grove was drilled by the lost but not forgotten  ’ el conquistador’ and Jess the joker was not joking with davis anymore after Davis did what he said he would do and ‘ punch a hole in ‘ the jokers face. Werdum upset Gonzaga and solidified himself as a top 5 hw with a ko yes i said werdum by ko against Gonzaga.

Stout and Paul kelly won the only decisions of the night. stout against  a per ecklund that tired early after the pace set by stout turned. Kelly defeated taylor in a fight where the first round may have been the most exciting ever in ufc history when both fighters stood toe to toe for a minute and threw bombs at eachother neither fighter baking down until kelly decided game plan better than excitement and began his ground and pound domination of fellow brit, Paul ‘i have almost no ground game’ taylor. but man can taylor strike. holy shit.

In a fight card that was lightly critisized for not being a  top lvl card UFC 80 delivered, blood, guts tears, jears and drama as a great card started the new year of mma off right. I’m sure it will be  a great one

i was only 3-6 for this card. my worst outing yet so far on this blog. i think i will do much better though. look for my breakdowns of next weeks UFN and ufc 81.
